Victory!

“I DID IT!”

Yuri breathed between deep breaths having finished the routine. He collapsed to the ice having for the first time successfully completed his replica of Victor’s routine to “Stay Close To Me”. 

The hours he spent watching Victor’s rendition, and then after practising, and practising to forget his troubles had finally paid off, at least a little bit. Just enough to chase away the bitter bite of his failures at this years competition.

He had let everyone down, and above all he let down himself, and couldn’t stand for Victor to meet him as a failure and not as an equal.

Maybe now, maybe now I can begin to prepare again, for next year’s Grand Prix, and maybe this time I’ll be able to face Victor with a smile on my face.

‘Yes.’ Yuri thought. ‘I won’t give up on myself. Just because I didn’t make it this year, doesn’t mean that I’m a complete failure…’

And with a deep steadying breath, Yuri lifted himself up off of the chill ice and made his way back to call it a night, so that he could rest and get an early start for a brighter, fresher, new day tomorrow.

“I’ll become someone you won’t forget meeting, Victor. Just you wait, and watch. I’ll make the best first impression ever!”

However, as fate would have it, Yuri was still completely unaware that the impression he made on Victor at the Banquet, was already quite lasting indeed…

Enough to change the course of history in the making. And exactly where our story of Yuri!!! On Ice will begin…
